Welcome to our clinic’s Frequently Asked Questions section. Here, you will find answers to common inquiries from our patients. If your question isn’t addressed below, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

GENERAL INFORMATION

What conditions does the breast surgeon treat?
We handle anything that relates to breast pathology. The diagnosis and surgical management of both benign and malignant breast conditions, such as cysts, fibroadenomas, mastitis, breast cancer, and nipple disorders.

How can I book an appointment?
You can email your test results to gxepapadakis@iaso.gr. If you have a confirmed malignant finding, please contact us by phone as well at 2106383721/722.

What are the clinic’s operating hours?
We operate by appointment from 08:00 a.m. to 19:00 p.m. and we accommodate requests from 8.00 a.m. – 22.00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Our reception and finance departments’ telephone lines are available from 9.00 a.m. – 20.00 p.m. and prescription services via telephone are available from 10.00a.m. – 20.00p.m.

FIRST VISIT & DIAGNOSIS

What does the first visit include?
 A detailed medical history is taken, breast palpation is conducted,  a clinical ultrasound (without a formal report) is performed, and an evaluation of imaging studies such as ultrasound or mammography is debriefed.

Can I bring exams I’ve already done?
 Absolutely. We strongly recommend bringing all recent imaging, diagnostic reports, and any older tests; especially if it’s your first visit.

Are biopsies performed at the clinic?
Yes, fine needle aspirations (FNA) and core biopsies are performed under direct guidance by our medical team, when necessary.

SURGICAL PROCEDURES

Where are surgeries performed?
 All surgeries take place within IASO Hospital, where our clinic operates. Preoperative evaluations are also done at IASO one day before surgery, with follow-up care handled at our clinic.

What types of surgeries are performed?
 All necessary procedures are performed based on individual patient needs, following medical recommendations. We also collaborate with plastic surgeons when required.

MEDICATION & MEDICAL PREPARATION

Do I need to stop taking any medication before surgery?
 Your doctor will provide clear instructions based on your medical history. Do not discontinue any medication without medical advice.

Should I fast before an exam or procedure?
 You will receive full verbal and written instructions regarding surgical prep. For regular clinical visits or examinations, fasting is not required.

PREVENTION & FOLLOW-UP

Are patients followed up after treatment?
 Yes. We provide long-term follow-up with regular check-ups and personalized monitoring plans, in line with international guidelines and recommendations by our team.

Do you offer preventive follow-up for high-risk women?
 Of course. We work closely with our geneticist to whom patients are referred for genetic testing after evaluation by our doctors. Afterward, patients are guided on next steps by our healthcare team.

TREATMENT & NEXT STEPS

What happens if something suspicious is found?
 If a finding is detected, we proceed with further diagnostic steps (e.g., FNA or biopsy) and any necessary imaging. If a diagnosis is confirmed, we design a personalized treatment plan guided by our team of doctors.

If chemotherapy or radiation is needed, who coordinates it?
 Treatment plans are based on recommendations from a Tumor Board conference. Our clinic works closely with many highly qualified specialists from both public and private hospitals to ensure you find the best fit. We can also recommend doctors based on your location (e.g., if you live in a rural area or have limited mobility), or other important patient-specific criteria.

PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT & COMPANIONSHIP

Can I be accompanied to my appointment?
 Yes, you may bring a companion of your choice to your appointment.

Is psychological support available?
 Yes, we collaborate with specialized psychologists who support patients before surgery, during treatment, and post-operatively. You can book sessions at any time, including online consultations.

COSTS & PAYMENTS

What is the cost of the visit?
 The cost varies depending on the type of visit or procedure. Please contact our accounting department for more information.

Do you have agreements with insurance companies?
 The clinic operates privately. In the event of hospitalization, we encourage you to contact our relevant department.

What payment methods are available?
 All convenient payment methods are accepted (e.g., cash, cards (POS), bank transfer).

TECHNOLOGY & ACCESSIBILITY

Is the clinic accessible to individuals with disabilities?
 Yes, our facility is accessible and includes an elevator from the hospital entrances.

Do you offer telemedicine consultations?
 Not yet. However, this is a service we hope to implement soon in eligible cases.

SPECIAL CASES & PRACTICAL CONCERNS

Do you treat men with breast issues?
 Yes. Although male breast cancer is statistically rare, it can occur. Our clinic offers the same expert care to all patients.

Is a core biopsy painful?
These procedures are performed under local anesthesia and involve minimal discomfort. Your doctor will explain every step so you feel secure.

Can I return to work after a biopsy?
Usually yes—either the same day or the next, unless your doctor advises rest for a specific reason.

AESTHETIC & BODY IMAGE CONCERNS

Will my breast shape change after surgery?
 Depending on the type of surgery, aesthetic changes may occur. We collaborate with plastic surgeons to achieve the best possible aesthetic outcome based on your preferences.

Is breast reconstruction offered after mastectomy?
 Yes. Multiple reconstruction options are available in collaboration with experienced plastic surgeons.

When can I return to the gym or physical activity?
 This depends on the type of surgery. Your doctor will provide personalized guidance.

WAITING PERIOD & RESULTS

How soon are core biopsy and FNA results available?
 Results are typically ready in about 15 working days. In rare cases (e.g., holiday periods), it may take a bit longer. We typically notify you about the results of the FNA the next day.

If the finding is benign, is follow-up still necessary?
 Yes. Even benign findings may require regular monitoring.
